BACKGROUND: The Employment and Human Services Department (EHSD), on behalf of the Workforce Development Board, received funding under the State's Workforce Investment Act (WIA) to institute a program to enhance the skills of nursing professionals in Contra Costa County. In regional partnership with EASTBAY Works Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) including Alameda County, City of Oakland, and City of Richmond, EHSD will assist twenty-two current nursing students upgrade their nursing skills. The strategy is to assist those in Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) positions to access training for Registered Nursing (RN) positions and upgrade credentials of the registered nurses from Associate to Bachelor's Degrees and from Bachelor's to Master's Degree to meeting the critical need among regional hospitals for trained healthcare professionals. 18-138-0
