"CONTRA COSTA COUNTY CARES"
HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE
WHEREAS, food insecurity and hunger continue to remain a concern in this County and in the State of California;
and
WHEREAS, the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano is on the front line of the effort to address this issue,
providing food to over 54,000 Contra Costa County residents this year;and
WHEREAS, the employees of Contra Costa County have chosen to hold their 2006 food drive to honor the
memory of recently deceased employee Kristie Hirschenberger;and
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County challenges the County of Solano to'paiti-pate in the"Counties Care" friendly
"food fight" challenge,to regain the Bag Apple Trophy for,2007 ,and--` ::-
WHEREAS, the 2006 Contra Costa County food drive will take place;betweeri November 20 and December 22,
2006; and. ':'. ,;.
WHEREAS,virtually every Contra Costa County department:represeritrng approximately 7;200 full-time andpart-
time participating employees,has taken on.the challenge to meet a goal of$9 per employee in funds and
food for the`.Food.Bank of Contra Costa and Solano during the 2006 l ohday season. and,
WHEREAS, the County employees encourage the public to particlpate by dolattng food and funds to the Food
Bank of Contra Costa andwSolano onitne"and at public offices fl roughout the`Courity,
NOW THEREFORE BE,IT RESOLVED that the Boar& f Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby
commends,encourlges, anal challenges employees and residents of Contta Costa and Solano counties to
open their Hearts and Cllets to assist tlie` .0. Bank of:Contra Costa An Solano and its client
organrzattons duruig the c.otning hohdayseason;_and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervrsos of Contra Costa County hereby officially
challenges Solano County nd kicks off the 2006- `C6untres Care Frlendly Food Ftglt";and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Sir ervisor
p s of,Contra,Gosta County hereby encourages all
citizens of Contra Costa and Solano counties to extend-die generous holiday spirit throughout the year to
help those less fortunate
