(Represented) I FISCAL IMPACT: This action will result in an annual cost of $185,328.00. These positions are 100% funded by federal and state revenues. I i BACKGROUND: I The Department requests the addition of two MediCal Program Assistants for assignment in Specialist Projects. The implementation of the CaIWIN system has created unexpected casework and review of cases. The Department has determined that existing case carrying workers cannot assume this additional workload. In order to avoiO fiscal sanctions and loss of funding the Department) is establishing a Special Projects unit. The new MediCal Program Assistants will be assigned to the Special Projects unit. The MediCal) Program Assistants will be responsible for reviewing and resolving MEDS errors in preparation for a State Audit. I CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If the Department is unable to add these positions, the Department will have insufficient staff to review and correct cases to insure positive results in the State audits and to insure that clients are receiving the correct benefits. Failure to add these positions could result in a reduction of the MediCal allocation.
