Community Development - CDBG JOHN CULLEN, CLERK OF cc: County Administrator THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Auditor - Controller AND COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR Public Works - Whan/Cardinet BY - EPUTY BACKGROUND /REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS The County Public Works Department (County) requests park dedication funds to finance the costs of installing a new drainage system and ADA upgrades to the existing play structure at Lehman Park located near the intersection of Evora Road and Pomo Court in Bay Point. It is the policy of the County to use park dedication funds to meet local park needs. Staff has determined that this action is consistent with that policy and is consistent with the County's plan to develop Lehman Park. Lehman Park is designed as a neighborhood park and consists of a small turf area and a play structure. The County has received calls from neighbors complaining about the standing water under the play structure, and expressing concerns about the possibility of mosquito breeding and spread of West Nile Virus from this condition. The new drainage system will reduce the occurrence of standing water in the play pit area, and together with the installation of the fibar ground, covering, provide a safe play area for neighborhood children, as well as ADA access to the play structure. The total cost of the project is $1.5,000. The project was completed in late October 2006. There are sufficient funds in the appropriate Park Dedication Trust account to approve this request.
