DIABLO BLVD., LAFAYETTE 1 PAYMENT OF COUNTY'S SHARE 1 OF BUILDING COSTS (T00670) t I SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUIND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION I 1. APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County to pay the Lafayette Redevelopment Agency the sum of $2,330,000 as payment of the County's share of final project costs to build the Lafayette . Veterans Memorial Building, located at 3780 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Lafayette, as provided in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the County, the Lafayette Redevelopment Agency, the City of Lafayette, the Walnut Creek Redevelopment Agency, and various Lafayette and Walnut Creek Veterans Associations. i 2. APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County Auditor-Controller to issue a check in the amount of $2,330,000, made payable to the Lafayette Redevelopment Agency. FINANCIAL IMPACT j I Funds are appropriated in the Plant Acquisition budget (0111) account 4431-4253 for the $2,330,000 payment. I BACKGROUND I I In accordance with the MOU described above, the County received $4.1 million for the sale of the old Veterans memorial buildings in the cities of Lafayette and Walnut Creek to the respective redevelopment agencies of those cities.! That amount was deposited into the County's General Fund in April 2006. The MOU also provided that the Lafayette Redevelopment Agency would acquire additional land and construct a new Lafayette Veterans Memorial Building, and then transfer the property to the County after construction of the new building was completed. The MOU further specified that the County would contribute no more than $2,330,000 to the construction of the new Lafayette Veterans Memorial building. The building was completed in September 2005, and title to the property transferred to the Countyi in May 2006. The County's payment of $2,330,000 to the Lafayette Redevelopment Agency is obligated under the terms of the MOU and will be the final Board action required to complete this transaction.
