HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11142006 - AJ.2 AJ.2 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adjournment November 14, 2006 On this day the Board of Supervisors adjourned this meeting in honor of Oliver Duncan Hale Resident of Walnut Creek Nov. 14, 1917 -Nov. 5, 2006 Oliver Duncan Hale, 88, retired Columbia Steel and Kaiser Steel marketing executive, passed away peacefully at home of heart failure. Born in Virginia,;Minnesota, his family moved to Berkeley during the Depression, where at 12 years of age he sold newspapers and magazines. He attended Berkeley and University High, graduating in 1934.` A WWII veteran in the Army Air Corps, he was discharged as a captain in the reserves. He worked for Columbia Steel and Kaiser Steel for over 30 years as a marketing executive, retiring in 1978 to form his own consulting business because 'helping people'was what his life was about. He was very proud of serving on the Grand Jury in 1970 and Juvenile Justice Commission and was past president of the Mt. Diablo Council of the Boy Scouts,both sons earning Eagle Scout Awards, and earned the Silver Beaver award himself. He was a past board member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Christian Victory Athletes. Hale lived mostly in Contra Costa County for over 50 years settling in Rossmoor the last 15 years. He volunteered as a tutor in Rossmoor, counseling at-risk boys at the Orin Allen Youth Rehabilitation Facility in Byron(Boys Ranch). He was an avid supporter of youth programs and was a board member of the Contra Costa Youth Council, which supports a reading-tutoring program for at-risk boys at the Boys Ranch as well as a high Sierra camp for disabled children.
