HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10242006 - C.63 C- - b3 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Contra FROM: William Walker, M.D., Health Services Director Costa By: Jacqueline Pigg, Contracts Administrator - { County DATE: October 11,2006 SUBJECT: Approval of Interagency Agreement#23-228-3 with Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Art Lathrop), to execute on behalf of the County, Interagency Agreement#23-228-3 with the Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District, an independent Fire Protection District, for the provision of Prehospital Emergency Medical Paramedic First Responder services and Emergency Ambulance services, including a mutual indemnification and hold harmless agreement for any claims arising out of the performance of this contract, for the period from October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is 100%funded by (Measure H) funds. BACKGROUNG(S)/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION(S): Moraga Fire .Protection District has provided paramedic ambulance services in Emergency Response Area 3 continuously since 1971 and has provided this service at the paramedic level since initiation of paramedic services in Contra Costa County since 1977. In July 1997, Moraga and Orinda Fire Protection Districts consolidated into one new district. On December 2, 1997, the Board of Supervisors approved Ambulance Service Agreement #23-228-1 (as amended by Contact Amendment Agreement #23-228-2) with the newly formed Moraga- Orinda Fire Protection District, effective July 1, 1997 (and automatically renewed each year . until terminated),to provide Emergency Ambulance services in Emergency Response Area 3. In accordance with Paragraph 5. (Termination) of the General Conditions, the County and the Contractor have agreed to terminate the prior contract to update the contract and allow the Contractor to assume responsibility for providing Prehospital Emergency Medical First Responder services and Emergency Ambulance services in those portions of ERA 3 which are contained in the Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District. Approval of Interagency Agreement 923-228-3 will replace the prior Contract #23-228-1 (as amended by Contact Amendment Agreement #23-228-2) with the Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District, allowing these vital services to continue uninterrupted through September 30, 2007.
