IN THE MATTER OF HONORING RESOLUTION NO. 2006/672
THE IRON WORKERS UNION -
LOCAL 378 AS THE 2006
ACTIVIST OF THE YEAR
WHEREAS, die Iron Workers Union Local 378, since it was established in 1921, has provided over 80 years
of service to the conirnunity;and
WHEREAS, the Iron Workers Union Local 378 has contributed to our conitnunity by working on bridges,
buildings, freeways, schools and countless other major construction projects requiring great accuracy
throughout the Bay Area,under..some,of the harshest conditions of extreme weather;and
WHEREAS, the Iron Workers Union,Local,;378 r`epatred the Oakland eBay Bridge in record time after the
1989 earthquake, as well;,as"un(dertakiiig'heroic efforts to,_save commuters trapped under Oakland's
Cypress Freeway;and
WHEREAS, starting in the year 2000, the Iron Workers Union Loca1378;;>equlred th 6,eveiy apprentice must
perforin four hours of,Cointnunity Service per yeaY'for the i> four:yeas Apprenticeship ttMing, and in
so doing has provided hundreds of hours of dedicated philanthropy to the less=fortunate; and
WHEREAS; the 'Iron Workers: Union Local 378 has given ongoing nionetaiy support.;and contributed
sigfiificant�volunteet work,hours'to many local nonprofit and community oiganizat 6fis.and
WHEREAS, tie Iron Workers Union-Loca1378 has receridy given time to many local organizations including
the Children's Wonderland Park in Vallejo;;Benicia;High School; the Society;`for the Prevention of
Cruelty ,o Anuiials`International(SPCA), and is now involved in the "Flight 93" memorial in Union
City,and

WHEREAS; tie members of Iron Workers Urnon Local 378 liave made continual:efforts to assist die
Central Labor Councils ofCont>a Costa,Napa;Solaro,Alameda and Sonoma.counties;

NOW,THEREFORE,BE,IT RESOLVED that tie Board of Supeivisois of:Contra Costa County
honors the Iron=,Workers Union Local 378 and its members"for the" dedication and conniTntment to.
their jobs and for providing extraordinary efforts on;behalf,of communities throughout the Bay Area.
