SUBJECT: Contract with Veronica Bushnell for the purpose of engaging families at-risk of entering the
Children and Family Services system (CFS) in the North Richmond, Iron Triangle and San Pablo
Areas.
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to execute a contract
with Veronica Bushnell in the amount of$29,214 for the purpose of engaging families at-risk of entering the
Children and Family Services system (CFS) in the North Richmond, Iron Triangle and San Pablo Areas for the
period November 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007. (Budgeted: 100% State) (District I)
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
$29,214: No County Costs; 100% State funds.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
This contract supports all five of the community outcomes established in the Children's Report Card: 1)
"Children Ready for and Succeeding in School"; 2) "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive
Adulthood"; 3) "Families that are Economically Self Sufficient"; 4) "Families that are Safe, Stable and
Nurturing"; and 5) "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families."
This is accomplished through maintaining family stability and fostering child well being.
BACKGROUND:
In coordination with the Children and Family Services Bureau, the Community Engagement Specialist (CES)
will work to engage families at-risk of entering Children and Family Services (CFS) system and link them to
community-based case management services to improve family functioning and overall child wellbeing. CES
will be responsible for recruiting resource families within the redesign impact areas.
