FISCAL IMPACT: There is a cost savings associated with this action. BACKGROUND: The Print and Mail Services Division is comprised of twenty-one represented employees in two different locations with only one management employee. The span of control for this division is too large for just one Print and Mail Services Manager to effectively supervise. The addition of a Print and Mail Services Supervisor will help alleviate the majority of the day-to-day supervision of the division and will allow the Print and Mail Services Manager to concentrate on its higher level managerial duties. The previous Supervisor position was held by the current Manager and was not filled due to budget issues. Duties for the Print and Mail Services Supervisor will include supervising assigned staff, monitoring and evaluating work performance, checking quality and quantity of work produced, participating in the selection process of new employees, and making recommendations regarding personnel matters. The Recycle and Work Program Supervisor position was vacated on March 30, 2006 and its duties have been distributed between the Custodial and Recycle Services Manager and the Lead Resource Center Attendant. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Should this request not be granted a decrease in efficiency will occur in the Print and Mail Services Divisions of General Services.
