RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution Number 20129. adding one(1) permanent part time(26:40) Home Economist(V9WE) position at
salary level QT51376(S4,011-S4.875) [Represented]
FISCAL IMPACT:
Upon approval,this action will result in no net County cost. Eventual elimination of temporary assignment will offset the cost of the
permanent position. i
BACKGROUND:
The Health Services Department has had a temporary Home Economist supporting the WIC (Women and Infant Children) program
since October 2004 and has now been able to budget the necessary funds to add this position on a permanent basis. The Home
Economist position is necessary so that the County can provide community education and training in areas of nutrition, homemaking
practices. selective shopping. and provide training on the effective utilization of resources.
Duties of the Home Economist position will include planning, organizing and making presentations to community groups on nutrition,
consumer education, and health related activities such as games and exercises suited to specific age groups. Instructing and providing
demonstrations on economical food purchasing and good nutritional low cost foods suited to different ethnic groups and life styles. I
Promoting consumer education by indication hose, where and when to purchase in order to receive maximum value for money spent.
Assisting in food handling techniques and in developing training programs for staff and community and volunteer groups. Assisting in i
identifying andordeveloping existing local community resources

If this request is not approved, it will severely affect the County's ability to provide the community with vital training and
education which may endanger the nutritional health of many county citizens.
