Sheriff l = Costa _ 'Z DATE: October 10. 2006 County SUBJECT: Request to Purchase Vehicles on Behalf of the Office of the Sheriff's Law Enforcement Training Center SPEC=IC REQUESTS:CR RECOMMEND% 10TS',&BACKGRO-ND AND JUST.=ICATICN I. RECOMMENDED ACTION: 1. APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee. to purchase six (6) Ford ; Crown Victoria vehicles on behalf of the Office of the Sheriff's Law Enforcement Training Center to provide mandatory "perishable skills training" in the form of an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course for Sheriff's Office sworn staff. 2. Authorize the attached appropriation adjustment #_5016 — for $134.110. These funds i are comprised of accumulated depreciation. estimated salvage. and Sheriff's funds. II. FISCAL IMPACT: General Fund. Budgeted. III. BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S): 1 The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requires that each officer complete perishable skills training' in the form of the Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC). This training is required every two years for all sworn employees. When the Law Enforcement Training Center was formed, six high mileage older vehicles were inherited from Los Medanos College. These vehicles have now been salvaged and are no longer at the i Training Center. To continue the EVOC training, the Training Center was forced to rent vehicles but due to the high degree of repair needed after each course, rental agencies no longer offer their service. The Training Center is now borrowing vehicles from the Sheriffs Fleet. The I purchase of these vehicles is necessary to continue the mandated training required by (POST) and also to provide this training to deputy sheriff recruits attending the academy.
