BACKGROUND The Human Relations Commission was established in September 1986 to foster peaceful relations in the interest of preserving the public peace among citizens of different races, religions and national origins; and to promote positive human relationship for the purpose of insuring public peace, health, safety and the general welfare. The Commission consists of 18 members and one alternate. The Internal Operations Committee reviews nominations to all seats on the Commission. However, the Board is being asked to approve the following two appointments directly because the Internal Operations Committee will not be meeting again until December and the Commission will not have enough members to make a quorum lacking these appointments (see attached roster). The Commission continues to recruit for new members and forward its nominations to the IOC. The IOC has already processed several nominations this year.
