0ti SE C � o TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS '�{- `" Cont ra Costa FROM: John Cullen, Director �� County Employment and Human Seryices ent °sr----�_ �" C011N DATE: January 3, 2006 SUBJECT: California State University Long Beach Foundation Funding for the California Social Work Education Consortium (CaISWEC) Aging Initiative SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to accept funding from the California State University Long Beach Foundation in the amount of$45,630 for coordination of the California Social Work Education Consortium (CaISWEC) Aging Initiative from July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006 (#29-228-0) FINANCIAL IMPACT: EHSD to receive funding in the amount of $45,630, 100% California State University Long Beach Foundation. No county match. BACKGROUND- The CaISWEC Aging Initiative involves the following objectives: 1. Creation and dissemination o I a standardized competency-based geriatric social work curriculum 2. Development of student incentives and stipends using California Medi-Cal funds, and 3. Advancement of geriatric socilat work through identification of social work jobs and labor force needs. Contra Costa County Employment and Human services will fund coordination of the project to create a supportive infrastructure for the development of the Aging Initiative. The infrastructure will include, but is not limited to, development of communication and documentation processes; development and maintenance of the CaISWEC Aging Dissemination Center t&ugh the new Aging Initiative on the CaISWEC website. The website will make available resources and project reports; a chronicle of various activities (i.e., meeting minutes, documentation related to conference calls, various phases of the project); assistance in activities that lead to the sustainability of outcomes including grant writing, facilitation of opportunities for collaboratives, schools of social work and county agencies; the strategic planning process; and, product communication by website, targeted mailings, and Aging Initiative reports.
