FISCAL IMPACT: The cost associated with this action is approximately $1,074 annually and will be fully funded from General Fund FY2005-06. There is going to be a future cancellation of a Planning Technician III position in March which will partially off-set the cost. BACKGROUND: The position will provide staff support to the Support Services Bureau-Information Technology Unit. Over the last five years, the department has automated processes and installed several new computer systems to improve productivity and efficiency. These systems include the Information Management System that tracks all bookings for three detention facilities, Disc Imaging System that enables staff to digitize documents for all Bureaus; and the Precinct System which is an automated report writing system for patrol units and station houses. The position will support the installation and maintenance of the current systems, future newer systems, network users/users and future projects that will require extensive technical support. The Department of Information Technology has been advised of this action. Received acknowledgement from the department's Administrative Services Officer expressing no concerns with the addition of one (1) Information Systems Specialist I position.
