(Represented) FISCAL IMPACT: Upon approval, this action will result in an annual cost of $130,000.00. This position is 100% funded by the Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act (JJCPA). i BACKGROUND: The Department has requested this action to staff the Middle School Program. This new position will be assigned to Glenbrook and Oak Grove Middle Schools in Concord. The Department is using funds from the State of California, Corrections Standards Authority to continue programs designated under the Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act (JJCPA) Act. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The consequence of negative action will result in a missed opportunity to provide intervention and supervision at two middle schools in Concord, a D.M.C. target area. Requested Action: Add one Deputy Probation Officer III position to the Probation Department. II. Background and Justification for Request: On May 2, 2006, the Board adopted a Resolution authorizing the County Probation Officer to apply and accept funds from the State of California, Corrections Standards Authority, in the amount of $2,770,491 to continue programs designated under the Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act (JJCPA) program for fiscal year 2006/07. Furthermore, an additional $411,561 is available for fiscal year 06/07 through JJCPA. With the additional money, Probation would like to create a new Deputy Probation Officer position in the Middle School Program. This DPO will be assigned to Glenbrook and Oak Grove Middle Schools in Concord, one of the D.M.C. target areas, providing early intervention and supervision. III. Fiscal Impact: JJCPA will fully fund one full-time Deputy Probation Officer. No County match is required. IV. Consequence of Negative Action: An opportunity to provide intervention and supervision at two middle schools in Concord, a D.M.C. target area, with no cost to the County, will be missed.
