-sE L TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS �?��i��=°�' Contra FROM: LORI GENTLES, Assistant County Administrator- Costa Director of Human Resources x ` - County DATE: December 5, 2006 a °OD" SUBJECT: P300#20182 — Public Works SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution Number 20182 adding one Administrative Services Assistant II position (Unrepresented) and canceling one Planner II position (Unrepresented). FISCAL IMPACT: There is a cost savings associated with this action. BACKGROUND: Due to the resignations of two Planner II's in the Special Districts Division of Public Works, Staff assessed the needs of this Division and determined that canceling one Planner II and adding an Administrative Services Assistant II would more effectively meet the operational needs of the Division. One of the Planner II's duties that recently resigned was comprised more of administrative duties and not technical Planner duties. Currently a Planner III has transferred to this Division and has assumed both Planner II's technical planning duties for the Division. However, there are too many administrative tasks for the Planner III position to handle and an added Administrative Services Assistant II is needed to assume the majority of the administrative tasks for the Division. The Administrative Services Assistant II's responsibilities will include working with the Special Districts' Budget, researching funding sources and issues, administering the Geological Hazard Abatement District, providing advisory liaison support, administering contracts, and interacting with managers, residents, the Board of Supervisors, and the Public Works staff. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Should this request not be granted, the administrative duties for the Special Districts Division of Public Works will not be able to be completed causing a decrease in efficiency for the Division.
