SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO EXECUTE CONTRACT WITH FOOD BANK OF U10
CONTRA COSTA AND SOLANO
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Community Services Department Director, or designee, to
execute a contract with Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano in an amount not to exceed
$34,000 to provide food program assistance for the Community Services Department via the
Community Services Block Grant Safety Net program for the period November 1, 2006 through
December 31, 2006. (Budgeted, Federal and State funds) (All Districts)
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of this contract is funded by the department's Community Services Block grant. As
The cost of the contract is included in the Community Services Department's FY 2006-07
budget. There is no net County cost to this contract.

Food Bank contract December 19, 2006
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Community Services Department's Head Start program supports two of Contra Costa
County's community outcomes: "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School" and "Families
that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing." These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive
services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-
income children throughout Contra Costa County.
BACKGROUND:
The proposed contract will provide the Department with Safety Net program services
for eligible Contra Costa families, in support of the Department's Community Action
Plan. The Contractor will provide vulnerable families with vital food assistance. The
Contractor will also collaborate with the County to provide nutrition education and/or
resource information to Community Services Department sites. Approval of this
contract will assist the Department to meet Community Action Plan goals and
objectives.
