JOHN GUNNARSON

RECOMMENDATION:

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Community Services Director. or designee. to execute a
contract amendment with John Gunnarson. effective December 19. 2006. to extend the term
from December 31. 2006 to June 30. 2007 with no change to the payment limit of$64.000 to
continue to provide training and technical assistance to create a professional development
program for the Community Services Department (Budgeted. Federal and State funds) (All
Districts)

FISCAL IMPACT:
I
The cost of this contract is funded by the department's Head Start and Early Head Start grants
as well as the department's Child Development funds. The cost of the contract is included in the
Community Services Department's FY 2006-07 budget. There is no net County cost to this
contract.

John Gunnarson contract amendment December 19, 2006
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Community Services Department's Head Start program supports two of Contra Costa i
County's community outcomes: "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School" and `Families
that are Safe. Stable. and Nurturing." These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive
services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-
income children throughout Contra Costa County.

BACKGROUND:
On September 12. 2006. the Board of Supervisors approved a contract with John Gunnarson to
provide training and technical assistance to create a professional development program. The
scope of work for the contract is to be continued through June 30, 2007 with no change to the
payment limit. Approval of this contract amendment will assist the department to meet Head
Start standards and regulations for on-going professional development for all staff.
