SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Rich Harrison)to execute on behalf of the County, Agreement #29-785 with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), to pay the County in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000 for the County's Contra Costa Health Plan (CCHP) Medicare Advantage Program, Special Needs Plan, for the period from January 1, 2007 through December 31,2007. FISCAL IMPACT: Approval of this agreement may result in $1,000,000 of Federal funding from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for CCHP Medicare Advantage Program, Special Needs Plan. No County funds are required. BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S): Medicare Advantage Plans are health plan options that are part of the Medicare Program. As a member of the Medicare Advantage Plan, the member generally gets all of the Medicare- covered health care through that plan. This coordinated care plan coverage can include prescription drug coverage. The Medicare Advantage Plans include Medicare Health Maintenance Organization (HMO's); Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO); Private Fee-for- Service Plans; and Medicare Special Needs Plans. The Centers for Medicare &.Medicaid Services is working in collaboration with the County to allow CCHP to operate as a Special Needs Plan. Three sealed/certified copies of this Board Order should be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit for submission to the State.
