RECOMMENDATION
AUTHORIZE the Contra Costa County Librarian to APPLY for and ACCEPT fifteen classic hardcover books, four books
in Spanish and promotional materials for young reader, all related to the "Pursuit of Happiness' theme from National
Endoa°ment for the Humanities and the American Library association. We the People Bookshelf on the Pursuit of
Happiness Grant Program for the period ending May 31,2005. (District II) '

BACKGROUND

Description of Service
The We the People Bookshelf Grant provides fifteen classic hardcover books in English for young readers, four books in
Spanish. a CD with traditional music, and promotional material for the Lafayette Library. These books will encourage
young people to read classic books and explore themes in American history, culture, and ideas that embody the theme of
the"Pursuit of Happiness`.
