SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution Number 19989 to CANCEL a Charge Nurse position, DECREASE
HOURS of a Clinical Nurse Specialist-Psych position, and ADD a Health Service Education and Training
Specialist position.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no cost associated with this action as the cancellation of the Charge Nurse position and decreased
hours for the Clinical Nurse Specialist-Psych will offset the cost for the additional Health Services Education
and Training Specialist position.
BACKGROUND:
The Health Services Department is requesting to cancel one Charge Nurse position, decrease hours of the
Clinical Nurse Specialist-Psych position and add one Health Services Education and Training Specialist
position.
Duties of the Health Services Education and Training Specialist include organizing and/or following up with
the new Registered Nurses' graduate program that has been established to ensure the orientation and
successful integration of recently graduated registered nurses hired to work at Contra Costa Regional
Medical Center. Additional responsibilities include designing programs to instruct nursing staff in developing
clinical competencies; assessing education needs of direct patient care and ancillary staff, designing and
delivering training to ensure identified gaps are closed or significantly narrowed; evaluating outcomes from
education programs and revising training programs to meet identified needs, and educating patient care staff
regarding JCAHO and Title XXII regulations.
CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Should the Health Services Education and Training position be added, the department will not be able to
organize and/or follow up with the new Registered Nurs grad te program that has een established to
connect new graduates with employment opportunities a he Contr Costa Regional M cal Center.
