SUBJECT: Position Adjustment Resolution #19983
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution #19983 adding ten (10) Institutional
Services Worker positions in the Health Services Department.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funding for the positions is available through savings from reductions in the use of
temporary staff and overtime.
BACKGROUND: A number of Institutional Service Worker positions were eliminated in the 2005-
2006 budget process in an attempt to reduce costs.
The Department of Health Services has been meeting with Local 1 since that time on ways to
restructure housekeeping duties to reduce costs and provide increased services. Through this joint
effort, the Department and Local 1 have agreed that a number of the positions could be re-
established and, combined with changes in work assignments for permanent staff, reductions in
overtime, and elimination of temporary staff, sufficient budget savings could be achieved while at the
same time providing a better level of service.
RESULT OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this action is not approved, the agreement between the
County and Local 1 will not be honored and there will be a need to use temporary staff and overtime.
