SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution Number 19953 to CANCEL one Clerk— Senior Level, one
Secretary—Advanced Level and ADD one Administrative Services Officer position.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is a cost savings associated with this action.
BACKGROUND:
In February of this year, the former Administrative Services Officer resigned vacating this position. In
a cost savings effort, the General Services Department cancelled this position.
When the ASO position was originally cancelled, the intent was that these duties would be divided
between the Deputy Director and the Administrative Services Assistant III in General Services.
However, the Deputy Director was never able to take on these additional duties and he has now been
promoted to Director of General Services where he will not be able to perform the duties of the ASO.
All of the Administrative Service Officer duties have now been assigned to the Administrative
Services Assistant III, who has been temporarily upgraded until the ASO position can be added and
filled permanently.
The ASO duties include advising the organization or reorganization of departmental work units,
preparing reports on departmental operations including procedures, systems, work load space
requirements and capital outlay projects, as well as representing the department in personnel matters
including contacts with the Personnel Department.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Failure to add the Administrative Services Officer position will result in a decrease of effectiveness for
the Administration Division of General Services.
