SUBJECT: Expenses for Attendance at the F.B.I. National Academy �, • S
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDATION:
1. AUTHORIZE the Sheriff to expend $1,775.00 for costs associated with employee
Mitchell Lemay's attendance at the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia,
July 9, 2006 through September 15, 2006. This expense is to be differentiated from
an advance on funds or reimbursement.

I1. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
NONE. The total cost to the County for this 10-week continuing education program is
$1775.00, and funding is available within the Office of the Sheriff's budget.
III. BACKGROUND:
The F.B.I. National Academy is an internationally prestigious program of continuing
education. The training program is a comprehensive and balanced 10-week program
of advanced professional instruction. Throughout this training, particular emphasis
is placed on leadership development. Personnel from the Office of the Sheriff
attend the National Academy at the personal invitation of the Director of the
Federal Bureau of Investigation. All major costs, including transportation, are funded
by the Bureau.
IV. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Negative action could suppress the ability of our county to continue preparing our local
law enforcement officials for the unique leadership challenges which we are certain to
face in the future.
