SUBJECT: Position Adjustment Resolution # 20017
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION : Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution # 20017 adding one District Attorney
Attorney Assistant position in the District Attorney's Office.
FISCAL IMPACT : The cost associated with this action is approximately $ 77,040 annually. With the
Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors' recent approval to execute a contract award agreement
with the State Victim Compensation Program and Government Claims Board, funding for this position
will be covered by state funds.
BACKGROUND : The District Attorney Attorney Assistant is a paralegal-level position that provides
legal support and assistance to Deputy District Attorneys. The incumbent of this position will work
with crime victims, the Superior Court's Collection and Compliance Unit, the Prosecutor, and the
Probation Department to ensure that offenders comply with court ordered restitution orders. As a
result, this position will enhance the state's Victim Compensation Program's ability to reimburse
victims of violent crimes for specific losses incurred as a result of those crimes. The functions of this
position are operationally necessary in order to provide the necessary support required by the Victim
Compensation and Government Claims Board.
RESULT OF NEGATIVE ACTION : If this action is not approved, no position will exist in Contra
Costa County to assist victims of crime in obtaining restitution, as designed by the State Victim
Compensation and Government Claims Board.
