DECLARE January 18, 2005 as the 27th Annual Commemoration honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 2. PRESENT the 2005 Humanitarian of the Year Award to Bishop Curtis A. Timmons; the Student Humanitarian of the Year Award to Lauren Fong, Northgate High School; the 2005 Honorable Mention to Marsha Cheung Golangco and student Honorable Mention to Charlotte Brooks, Miramonte High School. 3. DIRECT the County Administrator to add Bishop Curtis A. Timmons to the perpetual Humanitarian plaque, add Lauren Fong to the student perpetual plaque for 2005. BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION{S}: For the past 20 years the Board of Supervisors has had a commemorative celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year, the County Administrator's Office recommends that January 18, 2005 be designated as the date to commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. At this commemorative celebration, a Humanitarian of the Year is acknowledged and a Student Humanitarian of the Year is also acknowledged. In 2003 the Board of Supervisors established the Student Humanitarian of the Year, and in 2004 a perpetual plaque was placed in the foyer next to the Humanitarian of the Year perpetual plaque honoring the Student Humanitarian of the Year.
