Approval of Contract Amendment/Extension Agreement #27--571-1 will allow the Contractor to continue providing services, including providing the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCAA) Health Plan Employer Data Information Set (HEDIS) Annual Audit for 2005, through January 31,2006. Costa Regional Medical Center,for the period from January 1,2005 through December 31,2005. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is funded 100%in the Department's Enterprise I budget. BACKGRQIMN /REASQN(S)FOR RECUMMENDATIPA(S): For several years, the County has contracted with registries to provide temporary medical professionals to assist Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers during peak loads, temporary absences, and emergency situations. There is a nationwide nursing and healthcare staff shortage, and in spite of persistent efforts to recruit nurses and other healthcare staff, the Department has experienced great difficulty in filling any vacant positions. Therefore, the Department has had to rely heavily on the registry services in order to provide quality nursing care for patients. On February 28, 2004, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26--385-P4 with California Nurses Bureau for the period from January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2004, for the provision of nursing registry services, as requested by the Department, for Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. Approval of Contract #26--385---5 will allow the Contractor to continue providing services through. December 31,2005. BACKGROUND/REASON(S)FOR RECUMMENDATIUNM: For a number of years the County has contracted with Medical and Mental Specialists to provide specialized professional services which are not otherwise available in its hospital and clinics. On February 3,2004,the Board of Supervisors approved Contract#76-520 with Scott T. Anderson, M.D., for the period from January 20, 2004 through January 31, 2005, for the provision of Rheumatology services, including clinical coverage and consultation, to patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center.
