SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution #20014 to ADD two Clinical Psychologist positions.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Health Services Department has estimated an annual cost of$40,472 for both positions; $23,610
for fiscal year 2005/06. There is no net County cost associated with adding these positions as
funding from Direct Medical Education (DME), Indirect Medical Education (IME) and Song-Brown
funds is funding theses positions. Direct Medical Education is federal funds to operate a residency
program; Indirect Medical Education is federal revenue funds for patient care reimbursement; and
Song-Brown is a State of California funding mechanism for residency programs. Additionally,
temporary positions will be eliminated so the cost for these two positions is the cost of benefits only,
approximately 37%.
BACKGROUND:
The Health Services Department is requesting to add two full-time Clinical Psychologist positions in
the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center.
These positions are needed in the Behavioral Health Component of the Residency Program, as
mandated by the Residency Review Committee (RRC) that establishes regulations to certify the
program.
The duties of the positions include: conducting psychological evaluations including diagnosis and
treatment recommendations; performing psychotherapeutic, counseling in group, individual and family
situations; selecting, administering and interpreting a variety of standardized and special
psychological test and providing consultative services to medical staff and community agencies.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Should this request not be granted, the Health Services Department will continue to use temporary
positions at the Behavioral Health Center.
