SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution #20009 to INCREASE hours of Exempt Medical Staff
Physician positions from 0 to 40/40 FTE.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost for the increase in hours for both positions is the cost of full-time benefits approximately
$86,750 per year; $50,604 for fiscal year 2005/06. Salary costs will be offset by the elimination of the
use of temporary staff. Funding for k oth positions is Federally Qualified Health Care (FQHC), fully
reimbursable and results in no additional County cost.
BACKGROUND:
The Department has requested to increase the hours of position #9331 and #7772 in the
classification of Exempt Medical Staff Physician at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. These
full-time permanent staff will replace the use of temporary staff.
Position #9331 is a Psychiatrist in Emergency Psychiatric Services (EMS). This position performs
mandated psychiatric care and is needed due to workload increases.
Position #7772 is a physician. This position performs consultation liaison and call responsibilities. It
is needed due to workload increases.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Should this request not be granted, the Health Services Department will continue to use temporary
staff at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center.
