'° .; CONTRA ot COSTA FROM: Lori Gentles, Director of Human Resources DATE: December 20, 2005 r= COUNTY coux SUBJECT: position Adjustment Resolution No. 20006 SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution No. 20006 to ADD one (1) Permanent Intermittent Library Assistant-Journey Level position. FISCAL IMPACT: The total annual cost associated with this action is 100% funded from the Inmate Welfare Fund. BACKGROUND: This action is being requested by the Sheriff-Coroner as a result of an agreement between Human Resources, Public Employees Union, Local 1 and the Sheriff-Coroner regarding the Library Assistant- Journey Level classification. The department has experienced recruitment and retention difficulties in filling a Library Assistant-Journey Level vacancy at the Richmond Detention Facility. Due to the department's inadequate library support staff, all parties involved agreed that Human Resources would conduct an open recruitment for the Library Assistant Journey Level vacancy and revise the class specification to reflect library assignments to detention facilities in the Sheriff-Coroner's office. The requested position will provide para-professional library support services to the Custody Services Bureau-Inmate Library Services Unit. Currently, the operation of the Library Program is supported by one full-time Librarian and several contract employees. The requested position will also provide support to three small inmate library outlets and assist inmates with library services. Anderson, Undersheriff(� ) Subject: P-300 to Add 1.0 PI Library Assistant— Journey Level The Office of the Sheriff provides extensive Inmate Welfare Services Programs to inmates housed in the three detention facilities. The Library Program is run by one full time Librarian and several co i tract employees. In October 2005, we submitted to add an additional full time Library Assistant- Journey Level to the program. In order to provide a more stabilized workforce and to reduce the need for contract employees, we now submit to add one permanent intermittent Library Assistant-Journey Level position. All costs associated with this position are reimbursed through the Inmate Welfare Fund; there is no cost to the County. Please approve the attached P-300 and forward to the Human Resources Department for processing.
