As a result of budget constraints, the County Homeless program reduced the number of shelter beds by 45. With over 2,800 adult men and women on the shelter waitlist, those beds were a critical loss to our adult shelter system. The County Homeless Program is committed to increasing the shelter capacity to the original count of 175 beds as quickly as possible, FEMA funds would be instrumental in helping us accomplish that goal. Calli House: Emergency Shelter for Youth The County homeless Program opened the first homeless shelter for youth of its kind in April 2002, Since that time, youth shelter program has served over 230 youth ages 12 to 21. Youth over the age of 18 reside at the West County Emergency Shelter and receive case management and other services during the day at Calli House. Calli House provides a youth-friendly environment with age-specific case management and other supportive services aimed at assisting the youth to exit the streets. Seventy-two percent of all youth served have successfully exited the streets (90% of youth under 18 have returned home).
