BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
Since 1999, the Building Inspection Department (BID) has had an employee recognition
program. When the Department began developing its Strategic Plan in 1999, the
Department crafted a new Vision Statement and several goals. A quarterly Customer
Service Award was instituted to recognize an employee who best exemplified the ideals
of the program. Nominations are received and the Director selects the awardees. Four
employees are selected each year for the Customer Service Award. The program has a
minimal cost, which is offset by its many benefits including boosting morale and
encouraging BID employees to perform at their highest level. The provision of excellent
customer service is an important component of the Department's Strategic Plan.
