BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
The Contra Costa County Watershed Atlas (Atlas) is a large format, full color, 1513-page
book of maps, statistics and text about the 28 major watersheds in the County. Though
focused on the state of natural ecosystems on the watershed scale, the Atlas also provides
information about the human community and the county as an eco-region. The Atlas was
presented to the Board of Supervisors on December 9, 2003.
The Atlas was prepared by the Community Development Department in cooperation with
the Public Works Department and other members of the Contra Costa Watershed Forum.
Additional background on the Contra Costa Watershed Forum and the collaborative process
used to create the Atlas was provided in that report.
