BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
The Ambrose Recreation and Park District (Ambrose) requests park dedication funds to
help finance the cost to install new basketball courts at Ambrose Park located at 125
Memorial Way in Bay Point. It is the policy of the County to utilize parte dedication funds to
meet Neal park needs. Staff has determined that this action is consistent with that policy
and is consistent with Ambrose's Park Master Plan.
Ambrose Park is designed as a community park and consists of open play fields, baseball
field, soccer field, two play structures, BBQ pits, multiple picnic areas, a pavilion for rentals,
pool, and tennis courts. According to Ambrose, the tennis courts are currently in such poor
shape that they are no longer useable. Consequently, Ambrose proposes to convert the
tennis 'courts into four full-court basketball courts. Specifically, the project includes:
removing the entire area of failed asphalt up to a depth of three inches; grading and
compacting the soil, installing three inches of compacted asphalt concrete; applying two
coats of acrylic paint sand and final coat of pure acrylic color coat; painting the basketball
court lines, and installing eight regulation basketball hoops. The estimated cost of the
project is$99,000. Ambrose has been awarded State grant money($58,000)through the
Roberti-Z'berg-Harris Block Grant Program to help finance the project.
It is expected that the proposed project will be completed by May 2005. There are
sufficient funds in the appropriate Park Dedication Trust account to approve this request.
