(District II)Project No. 0662-681056 DATE: October 19, 2004 PAGE: 2 of 2 REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS AND BACKGROUND; Additional funding is needed to pay the contractor for material (rigid conduit) that was not part of the original contract. The additional work costs to supply and install the rigid conduit will exceed the project contingency fund. This additional work was discovered while placing the proposed conduit across San Pablo Avenue Bridge over Rodeo Creek. Once the cut for the conduit was made, the Resident Engineer discovered the cut did not match the plans for the project. The Design team reviewed the situation and worked with the utilities to develop a revised design. It was jointly decided to upgrade the conduits across the bridge. This will facilitate future modifications to the bridge structure, while allowing the utilities to remain in place. The majority of these changes will be billed to the actual utilities. Approval of the project contingency fund increase is required to compensate the contractor for the additional work. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION. The lack of approval would prevent successful completion of this contract and preclude payment to the contractor for required work.
