GILBERT, DIRECTOR OF GENERAL SERVICES COSTA DATE: SEPTEMBER 21, 2004 COUNTY SUBJECT: REQUEST TO PURCHASE TWO HYBRID TRUCKS FOR THE BUILDING INSPECTION DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to purchase two hybrid trucks for the Building 'Inspection Department and AUTHORIZE the attached appropriation adjustments for this purchase. FINANCIALIMPACT The Building Inspection Department is purchasing two trucks for approximately $56,000, which will be financed with funds from accumulated depreciation($30,450) and $25,550 from Building Inspection's FY2004-05 budget. BACKGROUND The Building Inspection Department is replacing two vehicles damaged in accidents. One vehicle has over 87,000 miles and the other vehicle has over 103,000 miles. Both vehicles are being replaced with Hybrid trucks. These vehicles are not on the Board Approved Master List for Vehicle Replacement in FY2004-2005. Therefore, in accordance with Administrative Bulletin No. 508; "County Vehicle and Equipment Acquisition and Replacement Policy with Guidelines," approval is requested for the purchase of these vehicles. Based on a review of the need for the new vehicles and consideration of alternative fueled vehicles, the Fleet Manager recommends approval of this request. This request has been reviewed and approved by the County Administrator for consideration by the Board of Supervisors.
