Why do you want to be a member of the Countywide Youth Commission? I want to be a member of the Countywide Youth Commission to help out the local youth and really make a difference. I feel that I have not done enough for the community and for youth and I want to take action and get something done. Also, a friend of mine who is in the Youth Commission, Bilal Chaudhry, recommends me. 2. List the 3 most important issues for youth and why you consider them to have the greatest effect on youth in our society. How could you, as a CYC Commissioner,help to address these issues? 1. Not being able to voice their opinions 2. Not finding anyone to trust 3. Falling under stereotypes First, not being able to voice one's opinion does not let them be heard and thus no changes can be made for the better. If there is an injustice in this case, it cannot be solved, and so it can affect youth greatly. I am prepared to listen to the youth and do as much as I can, with my power, to provide for change. Trust is something hard to find but is also something necessary for youth. I will listen to the youth and will be trustworthy. Lastly, stereotypes are hurtful and unjust. I will do all I can to solve problems dealing with unjust stereotyping by listening and taking action. 3. 'What are your current community and school activities and what skills have you learned or used in these activities? I have yet to join many community activities which is why I am eager to be a part of the Youth Commission. I am also joining the Environmental club and KF.;Y club in my high school to help out with the community. 4. What special skills and talents would you bring to the CYC? I am good with people, technology, and basically anything that requires hard thinking. I am energetic and creative, and will bring a motivated, charismatic nature to the CYC. NOTE:A Commissioner serves a two-year term.He 1 she is expected to attend an evening meeting once a month.A Commissioner also serves on two subcommittees(estimate one additional meeting plus task assignments per month)during the term.A Commissioner must have transportation to the meetings. This is about a 6-8 hour total commitment per month. To Whom It May Concern: As a counselor at Deer Valley High School, I had the absolute Measure of working with Daniel Abizeid. Daniel is an amazingly dedicated and driven student. Only a few students that I Have worked with have navigated high school's academic challenges as effectively as Daniel. Daniel started high school a year younger than his peers and was forced to maintain an extremely rigorous academic pace. During his first year at Deer Valley High School he showed incredible growth, both academically and socially. As he reached his junior year he became the strongest student in all of his classes. He has a quest for knowledge that I find to be extremely rare. Being a counselor, I have had the opportunity to talk with several of Daniel's teachers and received valuable feedback from them. Every one of his teachers has conveyed to me that Daniel possesses a rare maturity and poise in the way he goes about his academics. He has an inquisitive nature that challenges teachers to be at their best. He leads others and sets the tone of ambition and integrity. I almost wish I was a teacher and had the opportunity to see this side of Daniel. I find it truly difficult conveying Daniel's personality. He is soft-spoken, driven and mature, but also extremely kind and engaging. He is a very special student, one that is well respected and well liked by his peers and teachers. Perhaps most impressive is how he balances everything he is involved in. He challenges himself with the most rigorous classes and I am sure he will be quite successful in whatever atmosphere he finds himself in. I have seen Daniel's confidence and maturity grow over the two years I have known him, and I believe that he will continue to flourish. As a counselor, it has been an honor and a privilege to witness Daniel's courage in dealing with the obstacles that face him. I will miss his energy, intellect and kind personality.
