SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION (S) &BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION
1. Recommendation:
DIRECT the County Administrator to make recommendations on the implementing of a grant
process and administration of the Contra Costa Futures Fund and REFER to the Family and
Human Services Committee for review.
11. Financial Impact:
None.
111. Discussion C Background:
On January 28, 2003 the Board of Supervisors approved, in concept, the earmarking of
annual Transient Occupancy Tax to be received from the Renaissance Suites Hotel in the
County's Pleasant Hill BART Redevelopment Project Area for prevention programs serving
children and families in Contra Costa County. At this meeting, the County Administrator was
directed to return to the Board with a final recommendation and implementation plan.
The 2003-2004 Recommended Budget includes $100,000 in anticipated revenue from the
Transient Occupancy Tax at the Renaissance Suites Hotel to be allocated to prevention
programs on a competitive basis. It is anticipated that this amount will grow as the economy
improves and the new hotel develops a client base.
The County Administrator's Office has been investigating various application and allocation
processes to facilitate distribution of the funds. Final recommendations will be presented to
the Family and Human Services Committee for review and submittal to the Board of
Supervisors.
