Community Development (CDBG) JOHN SWEETEN, CLERK OF cc: County Administrator THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Auditor- Controller AND COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR B ¢' f : , DEPUTY s ....................................................................................... ................................. BACKGROUND /REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS The Crockett Recreation Association is embarking on a major fundraiSing campaign to help finance renovations to the Crockett Community Center/Alexander Park located at 850 Pomona Street, Crockett. The proposed renovation project includes the following: • Installing a new entrance ramp to the multipurpose room to meet ADA specifications • Constructing a new senior plaza (patio) adjacent to the multipurpose room • Constructing a trash enclosure • Repaving the pathway around the east side and rear of the Center • Installing a new gazebo and stone walkway • Constructing a new barbeque area with serving tables • Constructing new restrooms at the west end of the courtyard • Removing the existing concrete patio at the rear of the Center and replacing with interlocking pavers • Installing additional fighting at the bocce ball and tennis courts The cost to complete the project is estimated at $504,000. The Crockett Recreation Association has begun its fundraising efforts and hopes to use the Park Dedication funds as leverage to secure additional grants from foundations and corporations. It is proposed that the Park Dedication funds not be disbursed until the Association secures the necessary funding to complete the proposed project. The Association hopes to secure sufficient funds to move forward with the project by June 2004, with completion of the project by February 2005. This recommended action would sunset if the Association has not completed its fundraising by August 2004. If approved, the available balance in the Crockett account will be approximately $3,400. It is the policy of the County to utilize park dedication funds to meet local park needs and staff beliefs this action is consistent with that policy. In addition, the County's Service Area P-1 Citizen's Advisory Committee has approved this request for Park Dedication funding. Maintenance of the improvements will be provided by the Crockett Recreation Association.
