Professional Social Work Month in RESOLUTION NO..2004/29

WHEREAS, the social work profession is recognized throughout the United States as that
profession which best services the needy, the vulnerable, the disabled and the abased and neglected
populations, whether children, adults or aged. Social workers must adhere to high standards of
practice which include specialized training, knowledge and skills, understanding the diversity of
cultures and communities, and meeting the expectations of conduct established by the professional
code of ethics; and
WHEREAS, social workers in Contra Costa County assume many roles and responsibilities,
including child welfare worker, r--cental health clinical worker, medical social worker, probation
officer, adult protective services worker, in-horse supportive services worker, disability advocate
worker, assess-Hent and, intensive services worker, therapist and supervisor. We wish to honor their
expertise and dedication in assisting others. Professio-nal social workers can and do make a
difference in the lives of individuals. It is the largest group of professionals dedicated to enhancing
the quality of life of those individuals and families whose lives have been disrupted; and
FERIAS, the social work profession grew out of the social conditions of another era. There
continue to be new challenges that require new strategies to empower individuals and families and
ensure social responsibility; and.
WHEREAS, it- is of utmost importance to recognize the ongoing cornn-dtrnent of the people
who serve as social workers and all the other staff who support this important work in our county
so that they are celebrated for their dedication and effectiveness in meeting the challenges of the
past and the challenges sof the present.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the hoard of Supervisors hereby declares
March 004-as "PROFESSIONAL SOCIAL WORK MONTH""i Contra Costa'`aunty.
