SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION
1. APPROVE the First Amendment to the Sublease dated January 1, 2003 with the State of
California Employment Development Department (EDD) for a portion of the premises at 2300 El
Portal Drive, Suite B, San Pablo, under the terms and conditions more particularly set forth in
the First Amendment to Sublease.
2. AUTHORIZE the Director of General Services, or designee, to EXECUTE the First Amendment
to the Sublease.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The Sublease generates $2,108.80 per month in revenue, which is paid by EDD directly to the Master
Lessor (the City of San Pablo) to offset increases in maintenance costs associated with EDD's use of
the building. The Amendment has no effect on the rent paid by the County to the City of San Pablo
under the Master Lease.
BACKGROUND
EDD works with the Employment and Human Services Department's Workforce Investment Board to
provide employment and counseling services. The Sublease between the County and EDD enables
EDD to occupy 1,318 square feet of the 5,830 square feet of office space that the County leases from
the City of San Pablo. The First Amendment to the Sublease was requested by EDD to extend the
term of the Sublease through December 31, 2005 and increase the monthly rent payment as
requested by the City.
