HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 12142004 - 2004 RES 642 F"Wwx- eoj fes' IN THE MATTER OF THE RETIREMENT OF ) >` SUPERIOR COURT COMMISSIONER DONALD J.LIDDLE) FROM THE SUPERIOR COURT OF CALIFORNIA ) RESOLUTION NO.2004/542 WHEREAS,Donald Jack Liddle was born in the State of Michigan to Canadian immigrant parents and attended schools in Michigan before being accepted at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas,where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree on August 26,1960;and WHEREAS,after a brief stint as a mathematics teacher in the San Antonio schools,Don enrolled in Naval Officer Candidates School where he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy in 1960,served as naval line officer being assigned to destroyer duty,and was an active duty officer during the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962 and the Calf of Tonkin Incident in 1964; and WHEREAS,Don was assigned to the USS McKean,a Fletcher class destroyer,as operation officer when he was deployed to the Gulf of Tonkin off the coast of Vietnam in 1965;and WHEREAS,after active naval service,Don entered the Naval Reserve where he retired at the rank of Captain in 1990,and after leaving active naval duty,don enrolled at the University of Utah in the School of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctor degree on June 3,1972; and WHEREAS,after a period in private practice,Don joined the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office as a Deputy District Attorney from June 1,1978 to March 30,1979,and subsequently re-entered into private practice,earning a Certified Family Law Specialist Certificate on May 10,1985; and WHEREAS,Don applied for and was hired by the Contra Costa County Superior Court as Child Support Commissioner on January 1,1998 continuing to his retirement on December 31,2004; and WHEREAS,Don has a reputation as a fair and impartial judicial officer who enjoys wide respect from coworkers,attorneys,and litigants in his court and he will be sorely missed by those with whom he has worked and the public whom he has he served. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CONTRA,.COSTA.COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS hereby congratulates The Honorable Commissioner Donald J.Liddle on the occasion of his retirement,offers generous thanks for a job well done for the County and its citizens,and wishes him well in whatever endeavors he chooses.
