HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11042003 - PR3 C_71z- In the N&tter of Congratulating Kamer Permanente's Walnut Creek Medical ) Center on it 50th Anniversary ) RESOLUTION NO.2003/612 WHEREAS,Contra Costa County has a vital interest in and a variety of responsibilities for supporting and promoting health care programs and services for Contra Costa residents,including access to affordable,high-quality medical services; WHEREAS,Contra Costa County is fortunate to have a number of highly regarded health care facilities and service delivery programs; WHEREAS,among those is Kaiser Permanente,a not-for-profit integrated health care organization established 58 years ago,which provides prepaid health care and a broad variety of medical services to more than 6.3 million voluntarily enrolled members in California alone,and to millions more in eight other stAes and the District of Columbia; WHEREAS,those services are delivered by 29 full-service medical centers,423 medical offices and 11,000 participating physicians,and two of those 29 medical centers are located in Contra Costa County,specifically,in Richmond and in Walnut Creek; WHEREAS,Kaiser Permanente's Walnut Creek Medical Center includes a newly rebuilt state--of-the-art 229 bed hospital,a new integrated Oncology Center,the County's largest Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit,and the only hospital-based midwifery program in the County; WHEREAS,Kaiser Permanente's Walnut Creek Medical Center is one of the largest employers in Walnut Creek,with approximately 3,000 staff members and nearly 300 physicians; WHEREAS,last year KP devoted more than$9,000,000.00 to provide medical care services for vulnerable populations and to support a variety of community programs and agencies throughout Contra Costa County; WHEREAS,this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Kaiser Permanente's Walnut Creek Medical Center;and WHEREAS,on November 5,2003,the Walnut Creek Medical Center will dedicate an expanded Emergency Department, which will be the largest in Contra Costa County and one of the largest in Northern California,and which will have cardiac monitoring at every bedside and on-site digital imaging; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors congratulates the Kaiser Permanente Walnut Creek Medical Center on its 50 years of community service and recognizes its contributions and dedication to the good health of Contra Costa residents as currently exemplified by the completion of a.new,32,000 square foot Emergency Department. PASSED by a unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors members present this 4th day of November 2003.
