Resources (dba Psychiatric Resources Locums) , for the provision of recruitment of temporary physicians for County' s child and adolescent Outpatient Mental Health Clinics, for the period from July 1, 2002 through June 30, 2003 . Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #74-086-4 will allow Contractor to provide additional services to ensure appropriate staff coverage to the County' s Outpatient Mental Health Clinics, through June 30, 2003 . SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION($)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION(S) : Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Kathryn Grazzini) , to execute on behalf of the County, Contract Amendment Agreement #26-347--5 with 'Me'dstaff, Inc . , a Corporation, effective October 1, 2002, to amend Contract #26-347-3 (as amended by Contract Amendment Agreement #26-347-4) , to increase the total Contract Payment Limit by $700, 000 from $250, 000 to a new total payment limit of $950, 000 . FISCAL IMPACT: Funding for this Contract is included in the Health Services Department " s Enterprise. I budget . BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENIATION(S) : For several years the County has contracted with nursing registries to provide temporary licensed nursing personnel to assist Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Health Centers during peak Toads, temporary absences and emergency situations . There is a nationwide nursing and healthcare staff shortage, and in spite of persistent efforts to recruit nurses and other healthcare staff, the Department has experienced great difficulty in filling any vacant positions . Therefore, the Department has had to rely heavily on registry services in order to provide quality nursing care for patients . On May 21, 2002, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-347-3 (as amended by Contract Amendment Agreement #26-347-4) with Medstaff Inc. , to provide temporary nursing registry services, for the period from May 1, 2002 thorough April 30, 2003 . Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #26-347-5 will allow Contractor to provide additional nursing registry services to cover the Emergency Roam, Critical Care Unit and the Intensive Medical Care Unit areas, through April 30, 2003 . Davis School of Internal Medicine Department) , effective July 1, 2002 , to extend the `term of the Agreement through June 30, 2003, and to increase the total Contract Payment Limit by $54,500, from $794, 500 to a new total Payment Limit of $849, 000 for the term of the Contract which began July 1, 1993 . FISCAL IMPACT: This amendment is funded in the Department ' s Enterprise, I Budget;. The services provided under this agreement are billable to patients and appropriate third party payors. EACKGROUND/REASON( ) FOR RECQM EXDAT10N(S)_: For the past several years, the Board of Supervisors has approved contracts with the Regents of the University of California (U.C. Davis School, of Medicine) for professional services in several medical specialties. Services are provided to County' s inpatients and outpatients at Contra Costa Regional. Medical. Center and the Contra Costa Health Centers by physicians who are U.C. Davis School of Medicine faculty members . On July 13 , 1993 , the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-152-9 (as amended by Amendment Agreements #26--252-10 through #26-162--15) with the Regents of the University of California (U.C. Davis School of Internal Medicine Department) for professional oncology services for patients treated at Contra Costa Regional Medical_ Center and the Centra Costa Health Centers . Approval of Amendment #26- 1.52-17 will allow the Contractor to continue providing Hematology/Oncology clinic services, through June 30, 2003 . Three sealed/certified copies of this Board Order should be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit .
