On this date the Beard of Supervisors adjourned this meeting in
memory of Mary Louise Mahoney, of Martinez. She was a
"Founding other" of the Contra Costa Chapter of the National
Women's political Caucus, a member of the Contra Costa and
State Democratic committees, and Central Contra Costa
Coordinator for the 1992 Clinton-Gore presidential campaign.
Ms. Mahoney was 57 years young,

Mary Mahoney
Contra Costa County native, Mary Louise Mahoney, 57, died,
surrounded by her family and friends on Jan. 17, 2003, at Mt.
Diablo hospital. A Memorial Mass will be recited at Christ the
King Catholic Church, 193 Brandon Rd. in Pleasant hill at 10
a.m. on Thursday, January 23. A celebration sof Mary's life will
be held at the parish hall following mass, with private
inurnment to follow at a later date.
Ms. Mahoney was born on August 7, 1945 to Catherine
Kerney and Daniel Mahoney of Martinez. As a child, she lived
in Martinez, and attended St, Catherine's Catholic School. She
later graduated from College Preparatory School, and JFK
University. Long active in the Democratic Darty, Mary began
her involvement as a leader in party politics during the 1972
presidential campaign of George McGovern as youth
Coordinator. In 1974, she worked on George Miller's
congressional campaign and later became his field
representative. She was a "Founding Mother" of the Contra
Costa Chapter sof the NationalWomen's political Caucus, a
member of the Contra Costa and Mate Democratic
committees, and Central Contra Costa Coordinator for the
1992 Clinton-Gore presidential campaign, In addition, she
was a member of the Board' of Directors of the John Muir-Mt.
Diablo health System. She was prominent in the real estate
community, laving begun as a realtor associate with Coldwell
Banker and advanced her career over many years to become
a partner and broker of Diablo Realty,
An active parishioner of Christ the King parish, she co-chaired
Christ the King's Habitat for Humanity Home Building
Committee and served as a member of the Contra Costa
Interfaith Housing Board. Mary organized Just Faith, and
served on the parish Council and Social Justice Committee.
She was a member of the peace movement and an advocate
for the homeless and farm workers.
Mary is survived by her Cavalier King Charles spaniel, 'less;
her paternal Aunt, Alice Marshall and her Mahoney cousins;
her maternal Aunt, Agnes Kerney Arley, Uncle Andrew and
her cousins Mals, Betsy, Molly, and Cass Arley, six nephews
and a niece as well as many, many friends.
Her family and friends will remember her leadership, quick
smile, sense of humor, and generosity, In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be made to the George Miller
