Attested: March 4,2003 John Sweeten,Clerk of the Hoard of Supervisors and County Administrator By:-- Deputy Clerk (e2 In the Matter of Proclaiming February 25,2003 } As Spay Day USA in Centra Costa County } RESOLUTION NO. 2003/58 WHEREAS,dogs and cats give companionship to and share the homes of over 50,000,000 individuals in the United States; and WHEREAS,one unspayed cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 more cats in seven years and one unspayed dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 more dogs in six years;and WHEREAS,humane societies and shelters euthanize an estimated 5 million dogs and cats each year. That's one about every six seconds; and WHEREAS,the problem of companion animal overpopulation cosh the taxpayers of this country millions of dollars annually through animal control programs aimed at coping with the millions of unwanted dogs and cats; and WHEREAS, 56% of dogs and puppies and 71% of cats and kittens entering shelters are killed;and WHEREAS, the cast to U.S. taxpayers is estimated at$2 billion each year to round up, house,euthanize and dispose of homeless animals, NOW,THEREFORE,BE ST RESOLOVED THAT THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS hereby' PROCLAIMS and PRONOUNCES February 25, 2003 as "Spay Day USA" in Centra Costa County.
