(All Districts) REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: The Economic Development Alliance for Business was established in 1990 to promote the East Bay for business attraction, expansion and investment. The organization is a forum for business, local government, labor, education, and community leaders to address the region's challenges. The organization provides a number of services for businesses and member governments to facilitate business investment and retention as well as job development throughout Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. EDAB works closely with the Contra Costa Council and the Contra Costa Economic Partnership on a number of joint transportation and jobs housing initiatives. ABSENT: ABSTAIN: ATTESTED: DECEMBER 9,2003 Contact: Betty Fisher(925)646-5763 JOHN SWEETEN, CLERK OF THE BOARD OF cc: COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR SUPERVISORS AND COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR By� eputy Specific services that EDAB could provide to Contra Costa County include: • Promote access to County issued Industrial development bonds to local and prospective manufacturing businesses (the primary incentive available for manufacturing businesses in California); • Participation at tradeshows, in regional and national publications, through targeted direct mailings and on the Internet; • Internet links, contact information and data maintained on www.edab.ora which averages over 12,000 users per month and exceeded 300,000 hits in October 2003; • Comprehensive economic data and analysis available provided for members including industry and cluster analysis with monthly trend data for the at least two years; • Included as a sponsor in EDAB's Quarterly Forecast and Monthly updates (sent to over 2,300 recipients and utilized by bond rating agencies, businesses and government; • Participation in EDAB's Legislative Reception, Membership Events and Co-sponsored events; • A leadership role in determining how EDAB and its members collectively can improve the business climate and quality of life of the East Bay.
