In the Matter of the Recognizing Deputy
District Attorney Mary E. Knox on Her
Selection as Prosecutor of the Year by the
California Narcotics Officers Association RESOLUTION NO* 2003/691
WHEREAS, Mary Elizabeth Knox has been a deputy district attorney with the Contra
Costa County District Attorney's Office for eighteen years; and
WHEREAS, Mary has been an essential member of the District Attorney's drug
prosecution unit in her first assignment to this function from 1989 to 1993, and in her current
duty since 1999; and
WHEREAS, Mary excels in her ability to bring together prosecutors, law enforcement,
victims'.and witnesses into an effective team to protect the entire community,as exemplified in
k
her rec6nt coordination of a high-level methamphetamine trafficking investigation that extended
over multiple jurisdictions, including the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, the
California Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement and police depa nts in Central and West
County, that resulted in the arrest of seven defendants, the seizure of 28 pounds of
methamphetamine in Contra Costa and Solano counties,the seizure of over one million dollars
in properties, and in the conviction of five defendants so far, and;
WHEREAS, Mary has demonstrated her dedication as a compassionate advocate for the
People in her work in developing the District Attorney's Drug Endangered Children Policy, which
has been accepted by law enforcement agencies throughout Co Costa County; and
WHEREAS, Mary's team-building and communication skills have made Mary an
effective and sought-after trainer by law enforcement officers throughout the State; and
WHEREAS, Mary's achievements as a narcotics prosecutor have brought her Statewide
recognition;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Board takes great pleasure in
congratulating Mary Elizabeth Knox on her selection as Prosecutor of the bear far'2003 by the
California Narcotics Officers Association.
PASSED by a unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors members present this 9th day of
December 2003.
