S. Department of Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) , in an amount not to exceed $29, 040, for the period from October 1, 2002 through September 30, 2003, for the provision of Oncology services for patients referred for treatment by Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is funded in the Health Services Department ' s Enterprise I Budget . The services provided for the County' s patients under this Contract are billable to patients and third party payors . BAACRGROUND/REASON(;S) FOR. RECOMMENDATION(S) : For many years the County and U.S . Department of Veterans Affairs has maintained a mutual sharing agreement which has made available to the County specialized medical services not otherwise available due to lack of resources, equipment, and personnel . These services included specialized laboratory testing, radiology services, nuclear medicine studies, CT scans, MRI ' s, dermatology, gastroenterology, urology, audiology and speech, and ophthalmology services . The County provided Emergency Room treatment and inpatient care, including certain ancillary services, for VA-referred patients . On October 16 , 2001, the Board of Supervisors approved Sharing Agreement #26. 424 with VANCHCS to provide Oncology services, including physician services with 24 hours of on--call. coverage, Tumor Board, and clinic support, to County' s patients at the VA Outpatient Clinic in Martinez, for the period from October 1, 2001 through September 30, 2002 . Approval of Sharing Agreement #26-424-2 will allow Contractor to continue providing Oncology services, through September 30, 2003 . The Contract documents have always been prepared by the Veterans Administration. Department of Veterans Affairs SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Jeff Smith, M.D. ) , to execute on behalf of the County, Amendment #26- 343-9 (Modification #2/V261S-0424) with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) to extend the term of the agreement from September 30, 2002 through September 30, 2003, to be paid in accordance with the attached Fee Schedule, for Ophthalmology services . FINANCIAL IMPACT: The Agreement is funded in the Health ,Services Department ' s Enterprise I .Budget . Under the term of the agreement, VANCHCS is paid a fee for service in accordance with the attached fee schedule which is incorporated in the Contract . The services provided for the County' s patients under this Contract are billable to patients and third party payors . REMONS FOR REC OMMENDATIONS rBA,CKGROUND: On May 16, 2000, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-343-7 (as amended by Amendment Agreement, #26-343-8, Modification #1) with the VANCHCS, for the period from January 1, 2002 through September 30, 2002, to provide specialized ophthalmology medical services to County' s patients referred for treatment by Contra Costa Regional Medical Center physicians. Approval of Amendment Agreement #26-343-9 (Modification #2) , will allow Contractor to continue providing services at the rates specified in the attached fee schedule, through September 30, 2003 . The Contract documents have always been prepared by the Veterans Administration.
